As of July 2022, the city had an estimated population of 399,788 and a population density of 621 persons per km2. The total area is 643.67 km2. Miyazaki Airport and Miyazaki seaport serve the city.

2.Miyakonojō
Miyakonojō (都城市, Miyakonojō-shi) is a city in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on April 1, 1924. 6.Hyūga, Miyazaki
Hyūga (日向市, Hyūga-shi) is a port city in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on April 1, 1951, with the joint merger of Tomishima Town and Iwawaki Village. As of 1 June 2019, the city has an estimated population of 60,037 making it the 4th largest city in Miyazaki Prefecture. It has a population density of 178 persons per km2 and a total area of 336.94 km2. On February 25, 2006, the town of Tōgō (from Higashiusuki District) was merged into Hyūga. Hyūga is a port city known for the production of Go stones and for beaches, many of which are popular surfing spots

7.Kushima, Miyazaki
Kushima (串間市, Kushima-shi) is a city located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on November 3, 1954. As of June 1, 2019, the city has an estimated population of 17,457 and a population density of 59.1 persons per km2. The total area is 295.16 km2 (113.96 sq mi). The city is served by the Nichinan Line of the JR Kyūshū railway system, which links it to the west to Shibushi in neighbouring Kagoshima Prefecture and to the north to the prefectural capital, Miyazaki. Within the boundaries of the municipality (but some distance from its main built-up areas) lies the island of Kōjima, known for the field studies site of the Primate Research Institute, where studies on wild-living Japanese macaque monkeys are carried out. Koigaura is a surfing spot in Kushima. Every year, in the summer, surfers from all over the country visit this beautiful place.

As of 1 October 2019, the village has an estimated population of 1,013 and the density of 3.73 persons per km2. The total area is 271.51 km2. Nishimera is made up of the hamlets of Murasho, Ogawa, Koshino, Yokono, Takehara, Kanmera, and Itaya. The main hamlet of Nishimera is called Murasho, has a population of 639 and has one traffic light. However such isolation is balanced by the mountains which surround the village and the river which runs through it.

22.Morotsuka, Miyazaki
Morotsuka (諸塚村, Morotsuka-son) is a village in Higashiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan.As of October 1, 2019, the village has an estimated population of 1,532 and a density of 8.17 people per km². Its area is 187.56 km². Forestry and farming are the main industries, producing shiitake mushrooms, tea and miso. The community hosts many festivals steeped in Japanese traditional culture. Morotsuka can be accessed by travelling northwest from Hyuga through Japan National Route 327, or via Japan National Route 503. The roads of Morotsuka were severely damaged by Typhoon Nanmadol in 2022.

23.Shiiba, Miyazaki
Shiiba (椎葉村, Shiiba-son) is a village located in Higashiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. Shiiba is a small, mountainous village situated in the centre of the Southern island of Kyushu. It is in northwest of Miyazaki prefecture, on the border with Kumamoto Prefecture. The main area of Shiiba village (known as Kami-Shiiba) itself is quite small, however, several small hamlets surround the village to make up the area/region known as Shiiba. As of October 1, 2019, the village has an estimated population of 2,579 and a density of 4.8 persons per km2. The total area of Shiiba is 537.29 km2.

26.Hinokage, Miyazaki
Hinokage (日之影町, Hinokage-chō) is a town located in Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. As of October 1, 2019, the town has an estimated population of 3,656 and a density of 13.2 persons per km². The total area is 277.67 km². Located next to the religio-historically significant town of Takachiho, Hinokage is known primarily for its three large bridges, traditional Kagura dances, and the work of Kazuo Hiroshima, a traditional weaver of bamboo baskets. Like many districts in rural Japan, the area has been struggling with an aging population and an exodus of young people to Tokyo and other major cities. The town's population peaked in the 1950s at 16,199 people, (Cort & Nakamura, 1994) but has steadily declined since the closure of the Mitate mine in March, 1970. (記念編纂部会, 1997) Between 2000 and 2005 four area elementary and middle schools were closed, and more closures are planned in the future. The region was heavily damaged in the September, 2005 Typhoon Nabi, and local rail service has been suspended indefinitely.
